The latest version (7.11) of SAP PI has been now around for about 6 months and more and more companies are discovering the numerous advantages provided by the new version.
However, when you take that decision you’ll be confronted with many things you have to think about. For instance, what’s the best strategy for your specific situation upgrade or migrate? Redesign interfaces or copy as-is? Introduce process modelling or stay with the old-fashion XI way?
Feel free to share your own experiences with your other PI colleagues. That means success- but also less successful stories
My own thoughts so far;
Right now we are in the process of migrating our complete set of integration scenario’s into Pi 7.11. We had to go for migration instead of upgrade due to some blocking issues on the basis installation. At some point SAP’s advice was to stop the upgrade and do a fresh installation.
In order to mitigate any risks during the migration, we’ve decided to start a Proof of Concept (PoC). For the PoC we selected two specific interfaces, one synchronous and one asynchronous both with ccBPM. The complete migration strategy will be further extended and based on the lessons-learned and guidelines as a result of the PoC.
So far we have opted to only adapt the naming conventions on the new platform, the rest will be migrated as-is. However, iIt is our intention to introduce the new top-down process modeling approach on a later stage…
